Let’s break the stigma! 👇👇👇 Design doe Let’s break the stigma! 👇👇👇

Design does not mean constantly running to the next best thing. Design doesn’t look the same for everyone. And design never means perfection.

What’s something you’ve always thought about interior design?

Why would I thrift as a designer? 1. It saves mon Why would I thrift as a designer?

1. It saves money. I know where to splurge and spend those dollars but I also know where to save.

2. It offers a unique perspective. I find so many items at a thrift store that I would never find somewhere else. I am not looking to give myself or my clients a home that looks like a copycat they can get anywhere else. I am here to showcase your personality. You’re unique. Your home should reflect that.

3. Better quality. Yup, you heard me. I am more likely to find a high quality vintage item at the thrift store that will last decades rather than the cheaply made items at a big box store. Now I do think there can be a place for these but I would much prefer finding high quality unique pieces at an awesome price.

4. It’s environmentally responsible. Consumerism is crazy and I am well aware that designers can be part of the problem. BUT they are often the solution. With a well-thought design, you will have pieces that last a lifetime, creating the need for something new to decrease. Less in the landfill and a better estate sale down the road, am I right?

Honorable mentions not included in the video: tablecloths, curtains, throw pillows, cabinet hardware, candles, picture frames, baskets…. On and on it goes!

I CAN SAVE YOU MONEY! ✨ Here’s how: There’s I CAN SAVE YOU MONEY! ✨ Here’s how:

There’s a big stigma that designers cost a lot of money. And while there is a price tag for design services, it’s not often spoken about how much money they can SAVE you.

Think about a wedding planner. Sure they help you pick out flower arrangements and a venue, but they do so much more than that. Their true value comes in when they understand the entirety of the wedding experience and use their knowledge to help prevent hiccups down the road.

This is the same with designers. Not only are you paying them for their eye, you’re paying them for their knowledge and expertise in a field that you don’t live every day. Utilize the experts to make sure you don’t make a big costly mistake during your remodel while also getting the look that you long for.

Check out the article on my website, “10 Ways an Interior Designer Saves You Money” at rufusandhenrietta.com to learn more.

5 reasons contractors hate Pinterest: 1. It gives 5 reasons contractors hate Pinterest:

1. It gives false expectations
2. They don’t always know how things were constructed and can’t always imagine this from scratch
3. They’re not designers and don’t know how to find out what you like in the image. They’re also not paid to do this and do not have to include this in their services.
4. It can lengthen the construction time because people want to achieve a look they don’t know how to get
5. Your budget likely won’t match the image

REMEMBER ✨
This is for inspiration. Inspiration does not mean replicate. It means you pull from aspects of the image and form them into your own interpretation.

Here’s a fun exercise to try. Rather than staring at an image and pulling out items. Look at an image and then look away, close your eyes, and think about actually standing in that space. What are the things that make you tick? These are the things you want to incorporate. This will help you encapsulate what you are truly looking for in a space.
